ENRIQUE “COACH” ROSALES passed away peacefully at his home in Bishop on Tuesday, August 10, 2021 at the age of 84. He was born in Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, Mexico on July 16, 1937 to Jose Luis Rosales and Gabriela Favila. He moved to Laredo, Texas in 1944. As a student at Martin High School, he played football, basketball and was a member of the swim team. After high school he enlisted in the US Air Force in 1955. He was stationed in Thule Air Base in Pituffik, Greenland. In 1959, under the GI bill he began his college career at Texas A&I University in Kingsville, Texas. As a student, he supplemented his income as a life guard and swim instructor. He majored in biology and physical education. After graduation, he began teaching in Laredo, Texas. After a few years he was hired at Bishop High School as a biology, physical science teacher, football coach and head basketball coach. He married his wife Norma and they raised their daughter Adriana in Bishop. He was named Coach of the Year in 1978. He retired from teaching in May of 1996. After his retirement, he and Norma traveled all over Mexico, took numerous cruises throughout the Caribbean. He enjoyed fishing and he especially enjoyed gambling trips to Las Vegas, Laughlin, Biloxi and Tunica.
He is survived by his loving wife, Norma; his daughter Adriana Pedraza (Ray) of Mcallen, Texas, two granddaughters Gabriela Pedraza and Briana Pedraza of McAllen, Texas; his brother Alfredo Luis (Raquel) Rosales of Laredo, Texas and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents Jose Luis and Gabriela Rosales; brothers Eduardo Rosales, Jose Luis Rosales Jr. , Juan Rosales and sisters Catalina Fitzwater, Angela Martin and Lucy Dovalina.
The family will receive condolences on Tuesday, August 17, 2021, at Turcotte-Piper Mortuary, 205 General Cavazos Blvd., from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM; with a holy rosary to be recited at 7:00 PM. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, August 18, 2021, at St. James Catholic Church in Bishop, Texas. A Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at St. James Cemetery in Bishop, Texas.
Pallbearers are: Fausto Dovalina Jr. , Ray Lara, Jesse Ramirez, Robert Ramirez, Eduardo Rosales, and Juan Torres.
