Emilio Cardenas

Emilio Cardenas, a cherished husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully in his home on November 21, 2024.

Born on July 13, 1943, Emilio was a proud native of Benavides, Texas. He graduated from Benavides High School in 1962, a milestone that reflected his connection to his deep roots and pride in his hometown.

Emilio served in the U.S. Air Force for 20 years and worked for the U.S. Postal Service for another 20 years. He proudly devoted his life to serving his country and community. Emilio found joy in caring for his yard alongside his wife, Ida, proudly winning Garden Spot of the Month in November 2011. He also loved collecting model cars and was happiest behind the wheel of his Mustang. Emilio enjoyed making others laugh, and his humor will be remembered by all who knew him.

Emilio is survived by his cherished wife of 61 years, Ida Cardenas; his four daughters, Debra Hinojosa (Ronnie), Cindy Vasquez (Ray), Priscilla Rodriguez (Rodney), and Melissa Meeker (Scott). His love will be carried on through his grandchildren: Matthew Vasquez, Bethany Kuhn (Tyler), Ryan Rodriguez, Ramsey Rodriguez, Aidan Meeker, Emma Meeker, Lily Meeker, and Addison Meeker. He is also survived by his sister, Esperanza Rodriguez; and his brother, Tomas Cardenas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Tomas and Maria Cardenas, and his sister, Francisca Rodriguez.

A private family gathering will be held to honor Emilio’s life. Our family is deeply grateful for all the condolences extended.
