Mable Dorothy Weisman went to join her Lord on September 10, 2019 at the age of 89. Dorothy was born March 3, 1930 in Brownsville, TX, to Harris Edward Carson and Icyle Shelton. Throughout Dorothy’s childhood during the Great Depression, wherever Harry and Sam went Dorothy was right behind them. Early in her life, she gained her spunk, her loyalty to family, and a great sense of humor. She married her childhood sweetheart Dickie in 1949, and began raising her family while Dickie was serving in the Air Force in Korea.
In 1972 Dorothy graduated with a degree and English and Education concurrently with a Master’s in Guidance and Counseling from Texas A&I. At one time, there were five family members in college at the same time! Dorothy began her teaching career in 1973 as the English V teacher for Riviera I.S.D. From 1979 to 1982 she lived in Mexico City while Dickie was on project for Celanese. She returned to Riviera I.S.D. in 1982 as the district counselor. Dorothy remained in this position until her retirement in 1992.
Dorothy spend her adult life loving, guiding, and counseling not only her kids, but adopting their spouses, and making lifelong friends of peers and students. She showed love to so many people in so many ways, she influenced us all to love each other. She was involved in the Red Hat Ladies, and the Seller’s Market as a painter and a volunteer. She also volunteered counseling services at local private schools. Dorothy’s great loves included her family, painting, Puppy, and being with friends.
She is survived by children Caroll Weisman of Waxahachie, Bunnie and Steve Bessel of Waxahachie, Mona and Barry Christensen of Riviera, and Bud and Esther Weisman of McAllen. She was blessed with nine grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren, and was continuously involved in all their lives.
