Doris Yaklin

Doris Evelyn Basden Yaklin, age 83, a longtime resident of Corpus Christi, Texas and a former resident of Riviera, Texas passed away Monday, February 10, 2014 in Corpus Christi, Texas. She was born August 12, 1930 in Riviera, Texas to Ernest and Gladys Basden. Mrs. Yaklin was a graduate of Riviera High School and Draughons Business College in San Antonio, Texas. She was employed by Missouri Pacific Railroad, Kingsville, Texas prior to marrying James A. Yaklin.
She is survived by five children, Daniel Arthur Yaklin Robin, Michael Wayne Yaklin Lisa, Sherry Denise Gillard Sam, Lynn Anthony Yaklin Sandra and Mark Aaron Yaklin Darlene eight grandchildren, Shana Marie Sorenson, Lindsey Jordan Marks, Ryan Nelson Yaklin, Chelsie Shea Yaklin, Cody Wayne Yaklin, Marshall Peter Yaklin, Shepherd James Yaklin, Hanna Mae Yaklin four greatgrandchildren, Brandon Ray Witherspoon, Sarah Elizabeth Sorenson, Georgia Beatrice Marks and Harvey Theodore Marks and brother, Harold Lee Basden.
She was preceded in death by her parents son, Joe Bob Yaklin sister, Dorothy Lucille Remlinger and brother, Alvin Gordon Basden. Mrs. Yaklin worked for Jewish Community Council in Corpus Christi as a secretary and ABarZ Ponderosa PreSchool as cook. She was Salutatorian of her graduating class of 1947 as well as VicePresident of her Senior Class and PepSquad Leader. She was involved with her children in school, sports, religion and scouting activities.
She had a green thumb and could make rocks grow She enjoyed gardening, cooking and educating others in their fight against diabetes.
Visitation will take place from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, February 13, 2014 at the TurcottePiper Mortuary Chapel. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 14, 2014 at the TurcottePiper Mortuary Chapel. Burial will follow in Riviera, Texas at Riviera Cemetery.
Services are entrusted to TurcottePiper Mortuary, 205 General Cavazos Blvd., Kingsville, Texas.
