Don Grant

Don Grant, also known as "Papa Don",a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, left this world to be with his Lord and Savior on February 5, 2025, in Corpus Christi, Texas, at the age of 90. Born on September 8, 1934, in Kenedy, Texas, Don lived a life full of laughter, love, and lasting memories.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, Zora Aquila Grant and Dalva Douglas Grant, and his brother, Carmon Miles Grant.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 63 years, Betty Grant; his two daughters, Kim (Powell) Fancher and Penny Merriman; his cherished grandchildren, Shelby (Travis) Johnson, Preston (Kylee) Merriman, and Cameron Merriman; and his great-grandchildren, Olivia Lynn Johnson, Walker Scott Johnson, and is expecting a great-grandbaby from Preston and Kylee in July. He also leaves behind a loving sister-in-law Doris Grant, and nieces, Vanessa (Keith) Benson and Valorie (Chuck) Berta.

Papa Don cherished the time spent with his family. He was deeply involved in the lives of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, taking pride in their achievements and growth. Recently, he celebrated a momentous occasion, marking his 90th birthday and a remarkable 63 years of marriage with a surprise party held in Rockport, Texas, where he was surrounded by the warmth of family and great friends. It was a testament to a cherished life, a life filled with affection, happiness, and love that he so freely gave and received.

As a graduate from Kenedy High School in 1953, he pursued higher education at the University of Texas for two years before completing his degree in business at Southwest Texas State University in 1957. His professional journey began at State National Bank in Robstown before moving to Sinton with the love of his life, his wife, Betty. There, he joined Sinton Saving and Loan Association, and later continued his career at the Bank of Robstown, where he held the esteemed position of Senior Vice President until his retirement.

Don enjoyed a variety of interests, including a fondness for gospel music and classic country songs. He relished great food, particularly barbeque from Darrell, homemade stew and cornbread, pound cake and brownies from Grandma B. He was a devoted member of First Baptist Church in Kingsville, Texas.

Known for his infectious sense of humor, Don will be remembered for his unwavering love for his family and the warmth he brought to all who knew him.

His laughter will echo in the hearts of many, reminding us to cherish each moment and to find joy even in the simplest of things, and trust in the Lord.
