Daniel Ibarra Vela, age 85, passed away Friday, June 17, 2016 in Kingsville, Texas. He was born June 12, 1931 to Daniel Ibarra and Lionila Vela in San Diego, Texas.
He served the United States Army during the Korean conflict. He was later honorably discharged from the United States Army as a Sergeant First Class, and awarded 7 medals and 3 achievement letters. He later retired after 35 years of civil service as a Fuel Distribution Systems Inspector for Kingsville Naval Air Station and after 13 years of service with the National Guard Reserves. He was also a member of the VFW Post 2375, the Veterans Arm of Guards, Sociedades Mutalistas and a lifetime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents Daniel Ibarra and Lionila Vela, his children Elizabeth Vela, Rosalinda Vela and Ricky Ricardo Vela.
He is survived by his beloved wife Araceli Rodriguez-Zavala Vela of (60 ½ years); his children, Danny Vela Jr., his daughter Leticia R. Mirelez (Alfonso Mirelez Jr.), Pedro Vela (Gloria Vela), David Joe Vela, Roberto Vela (Cynthia Alvarez-Vela) and his by his ten Grandchildren , and ten Great Grand-children.
Visitation was held on Monday, June 20th 2016 at Turcotte Piper Mortuary Chapel from 4:00 p.m to 9:00 p.m., with a Rosary that was recited at 7:00 p.m. that evening. A Funeral Mass will was held on Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at 10:00 a.m., at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1430 Brookshire St in Kingsville Texas. Interment was held at St Gertrudis Cemetery with The Kleberg County Military Detail honors.
