Corando Peña passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Sunday, January 29, 2023. He was born in Hebbronville, Texas, to Golfrey and Celestina (Mendez) Peña on June 5, 1953. He grew up in Hebbronville and the surrounding area with his 9 brothers and 1 sister, working on the family farm, having fun with cousins and neighborhood friends. Working as a migrant worker as a child into his teen years, went on to graduate from Hebbronville High School, where he developed lifelong friendships and an appreciation for learning. His childhood was an idyllic time in his life, which he recalled fondly.
He attended college in Corpus Christi, Texas where he learned many skills and an appreciation for life. He was a farmer/rancher, an art painter, a skilled welder, a craftsman of construction, a businessman, and many more other attributes during his being. He was extremely generous and always willing to provide a helping hand to anyone in need. A true chameleon in his creativity, he was also a proud father, grandfather, brother, uncle and a loyal friend to many.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Golfrey, Sr. and Celestina Peña; brothers, Rene Mario Peña, Sr., and Olivero Peña.
Among those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 46 years, Oralia Longoria Peña; sons, Marcus Peña of Ingleside, TX. and Rudy Arriola of Corpus Christi, TX.; daughter, Michele Peña of San Antonio, TX; siblings, Tranquilino (Elma†) Peña of Hebbronville, TX., Golfrey, Jr. (Liu) Pena, of Alice, TX., Carlos (Lucy†) Peña of Corpus Christi, TX., Irene (Mo) Miller of Belize, Juan (Thelma) Peña, of Hebbronville, TX., Jorge (Diane) Peña, of Michigan, Silvano (Pam) Peña of Hebbronville, TX., and Alberto Peña of Hebbronville, TX.; grandchildren, Rudy Arriola, Jr., Nathan Arriola, Dominique Arriola, Christian Arriola, and Taylor Arriola; 6 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and many friends.
The family will receive condolences on Friday, February 3, 2023, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Howard Williams Chapel, Hebbronville, TX; with a Holy Rosary to be recited at 7:30 PM. Final viewing will take place at 8:00 AM on Saturday, February 4, 2023, at Howard-Williams Funeral Home; with a funeral procession departing the funeral chapel at 10:30 AM to Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish, Hebbronville, TX, for a mass of Christian burial to be celebrated at 11:00 AM. A Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at New Hebbronville Cemetery.
Honoring Corando as pallbearers are Martin David Peña, Edwin Peña, Rene Mario Peña, II., Francisco A. Mendez., Arnold Valdez, Jr., Silvano Antonio Peña, II., Anselmo Longoria, Jr., and Nathan Arriola.
Honorary Pallbearers, Harold Lee Henry, Juani Henry, Elmo “Mo” Miller, Irene Miller, and Samantha Peña.
