Claire Louise Schiesser Stockton, age 90, passed away in Kingsville, Texas on Wednesday, April 27, 2016.
Louise was born on August 23, 1925 in Shawnee County Kansas to Louis Henry Schiesser and Alta Kathryn Patterson Schiesser. She grew up in Eskridge, Kansas. She graduated from Eskridge Rural High School in 1943 and from the University of Kansas in 1947 with a BS in Journalism. After graduation she worked as an advertising copywriter at Harzfeld's Department Store in Kansas City, Missouri.
Louise married Dr. James Andrew Stockton on May 15, 1949 at Central Methodist Church in Kansas City, Missouri. After their marriage, the couple was stationed at Corpus Christi Naval Air Station. Soon afterward they moved to San Diego, California where Jim began his dental internship. From there they were stationed in Bethesda, Maryland for the second part of his dental internship. While there, the Korean War broke out and they were sent to the Naval Training Center in San Diego, California for 7 months. From there the couple's orders were for Honolulu, Hawaii. They lived in Hawaii from 1951 to 1953. After Hawaii, Jim & Louise moved back to Bethesda, Maryland. In 1954, the family moved to Kingsville, Texas, which was Jim's hometown. Jim retired from the Navy in 1957 and he and Louise made Kingsville their permanent home.
Louise returned to school at Texas A & I University to earn her teaching certificate and began her teaching career with the Kingsville Independent School District in 1967, where she taught Jr. High and Senior High School English for 23 years.
Louise became a member of First Methodist Church, Kingsville in 1954. She was active in United Methodist Women, The Evening Garden Club, The NOW Department of the Kingsville Women's Club, Community Bible Study and Group III Investment Club.
Louise loved to travel and enjoyed trips to many countries in Europe. She went also to The Virgin Islands, Russia, Canada, Mexico, Oman, Dubai and many places in the US and abroad. She also enjoyed painting but her biggest passion was reading.
Louise always said her greatest accomplishment in life was her children. She was proud of each of them and she was also very proud of her four grandchildren. She was overjoyed to meet her first great grandson in January.
She is survived by her children, Pamela Stockton of Houston, Texas, James Andrew Stockton, Jr. and his wife Gena of McAllen, Texas, Susan Stockton Roberts and her husband Robin of Evergreen, Colorado and Mary Lou Stockton and her husband Dan McIntire, of Katy, Texas. She is survived also by her grandchildren, Dara Stockton Linder and her husband David of Winter Haven, Florida, James Andrew "Drew" Stockton, III and his fiancé, Nancy Silva of McAllen, Texas, Seth Roberts of Evergreen, CO, Michael McIntire of Katy, Texas and she is also survived by her great grandson, John Odysseus "Desi" Linder of Winter Haven, Florida. Louise was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. James Andrew Stockton, Sr. former mayor of Kingsville, and by her parents and by her sister, Lois Ann Schiesser.
The family would like to thank Kay Loftis for her loving care of Louise over the past 9 years. She gave tirelessly and with love to her. We thank South Texas Home Health and G. A. Salinas for loving care through physical therapy, Christus Spohn Hospital, Kleberg second floor staff and Kingsville Nursing Home and Rehab. We also appreciate her FUMC church family who visited her often and brought her communion and came to sing to her at Christmas each year. We offer thanks to Kay's church family and Kay's children who also visited and offered love, care and support. Thank you to her many friends both in Kingsville and those who live far away, who have always been there for her. Louise loved her friends dearly.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 30 at 2:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, 120 North 4th Street, Kingsville. Graveside service will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 2, 2016 at the Stockton Family Cemetery in Bartlett, Texas.

Services are entrusted to Turcotte-Piper Mortuary, Kingsville, Texas.
