It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Christine Ortega Herrera, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, who left us on December 23, 2024, at the age of 54 due to complications from her battle with lymphoma. Christy was a generous soul, whose love for life and zest for living was unmatched.
Born on September 22, 1970, in Kingsville, Tx. Christy was a true beacon of warmth, joy, and laughter. She was not only the heart of her family but also a friend to all who knew her. Her infectious laughter and genuine kindness brightened every room she entered. She loved being around people and quickly made friends with everyone she met. She enjoyed going to the beach, dancing, and traveling. She lived life to the fullest and especially loved spending time with her family and friends.
Christy’s family was her greatest passion. As a devoted mother and grandmother, she filled her home with love, wisdom, and unwavering support. She cherished every moment spent with her children, grandchildren, and extended family, and her legacy of love will continue to live on through them. She was a constant presence at family gatherings, where her stories, laughter, and warm hugs were always in abundance. Christy had a remarkable gift for bringing people together. Whether it was a backyard barbecue, a holiday celebration, or just an impromptu get-together, she was the life of every party. Her energy was boundless, and her ability to connect with people made her a cherished family member and friend to all. She believed in living life to the fullest, embracing every moment with enthusiasm and an open heart.
In addition to her family, Christy had a wide circle of friends, each of whom knew that they could always count on her for a listening ear, a kind word, or a hearty laugh. Once you became her friend, she was your most passionate protector, helper, and cheerleader. She found joy in the simple things, in helping others, and in spreading kindness wherever she went.
Christy is preceded in death by her beloved maternal grandparents, Miguel and Angelita Ortega; and paternal grandparents, Jose and Emilia Lopez.
Among those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Michael A. Herrera; children, Kassandra Zapata (Ricky) and Michael Angelo Herrera (Lillian Risinger); parents, Vicente Ortega, Sr., and Janie Wilder; brothers, Adrian Ortega, Vicente Ortega Jr., and Alejandro Ortega; her beloved grandchildren, Zavian, Kaisley, and Cameron; and a great number of relatives and dear friends who will miss her deeply.
The family will receive condolences from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 5, 2026, at Turcotte-Piper Mortuary; with a holy rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. A mass of christian burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 6, 2025, at St. James Catholic Church, Bishop, Texas. A rite of committal and interment to follow at St. James Catholic Cemetery in Bishop, Texas.
Though we are heartbroken by her loss, we find comfort in knowing that her legacy of love, laughter, and friendship will live on forever in the hearts of all who knew her. Rest in peace, Christy. You were loved beyond measure and will never be forgotten.
