Catherine Anne Brenot McCarty Nancy of Riviera, Texas died Monday, November 25, 2013 at the age of 88. She was born July 25, 1925 in Erie, Pennsylvania, the oldest of four children. She attended schools in both Oil City and Erie, and graduated from Mercyhurst College in Erie. She married the late James E. McCarty Sr. on September 22, 1954 and they moved to California to start a family. They relocated to Houston in 1963 and she moved to Alvin in 1978, where she retired as an employee of G.A. Mosites. She was a member of St. Johns Catholic Church and active in the Alvin Museum Society, Lutheran Braille Service, Meals on Wheels, Alvin Senior Citizens Center, ARC and ACCESS.
She moved to Riviera, Texas in 2010 to settle near her daughters family and continued to share herself and her talents with the community, volunteering in Ricardo School and the Riviera Food Bank. She was her grandchildrens biggest advocate. Nancys spirit of sharing and thoughtfulness was an inspiration to many, and she said she did not know why God had kept her around so long He must have more for her to do, and she was ready to keep working until she was called to her final home.
Nancy was preceded in death by her husband, James E. McCarty Sr. and son, James E. McCarty Jr.
She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Glynn Merritt of Riviera grandsons, Gerad Merritt of Riviera, Eric Cystal McCarty of San Antonio granddaughter, Lisa Franklin Scariano of League City greatgrandchildren, Temperance and Jameson McCarty sister, Marti Pastore and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 30, 2013 at Our Lady of Consolation Catholic Church, Vattmann, Texas with Fr. Peter Antony as celebrant. Burial will take place 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 16, 2013 in Houston, Texas at Brookside Memorial Park Cemetery, 13747 Eastex Freeway.
Active pallbearers will be Glynn Merritt, Gerad Merritt, Eric McCarty and Franklin Scariano.
Services are entrusted to TurcottePiper Mortuary, 205 General Cavazos Blvd., Kingsville, Texas.
