Bobby Payne

Bobby Eugene Payne, 86, of Kingsville passed from this life on April 26, 2022. Bobby was born on August 18, 1935, to Hosea Guy “Jack” and Gladys Payne in Apache, Oklahoma. Bobby had fond memories of his childhood in Cyril, Oklahoma, which he spoke of often. He attended high school at H.M. King High School in Kingsville through the early 1950s. He joined the United States Army in the 1950s, and served time in Seoul, Korea. He worked for Champlin, which later became Union Pacific Resources in Alice for many years and retired in 1998.

He enjoyed hunting wildlife, arrowheads, and had many stories he loved to share about his experiences. He cherished living in the country where he spent much of his time raising birds, building bird houses, and working in his rose gardens. Bobby could fix just about anything, and he could build just about anything. He also loved to study God’s word, was a devoted Christian, and a member of the Kingsville Church of Christ. He was a gentle, humble man with tremendous integrity, loyalty, and a sincere heart. Bobby loved spending time with his family. He was devoted to his high school sweetheart, Norma Henry, who he married in 1978. He spent every day beside her. He was loved by so many, and he will be greatly missed.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Bettye Elliott, Frankie Biggs, and Kaye Walker, his brother, Jack Payne, and his son, Patrick Payne.

Among those to cherish his memory are his wife of 43 years, Norma Payne; daughter, Cheryl Gray of Groesbeck; stepchildren, Darron (Carole) Powell of El Paso, Brett (Griselda) Powell of Corpus Christi, Shannon (Mandy) Powell of Rivera, Danielle (John) Miller of Kingsville, Todd Powell of Corpus Christi, and Rachelle Goldman of Bishop; sisters, Shirley Fowler of Corpus Christi and Lois Conner of Corpus Christi; 18 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive condolences on Saturday, April 30, 2021, at 11:00 AM at Turcotte-Piper Mortuary.  A graveside service will take place at 2:00 PM at Chamberlain Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Bryson Goldman, Roger Goldman, Landin Powell, Oriel Powell, Orion Powell, and Brayden Goldman.
