Betty Lee Martin Reist, surrounded by her family, passed away on April 10, 2016. Betty was born in Logan, Iowa on November 29, 1929. Her parents were Samuel Leslie Martin, and Ada Dow Martin.
Betty is preceded in death by her parents; her brothers Wayne Martin and Ronald Martin and her sister, Mary Lou Martin Kloewer; her nephews Paul Martin and Tony Martin and niece Kimberly Martin.
Betty is survived by her husband of nearly 64 years, Wilfred G. "Bill" Reist; their sons, Timothy Lee Reist and Steven Ray Reist of San Antonio, Texas and daughter, Pamela Sue Reist Lieck (Hugh) of Kingsville. She is also survived by her brother Harley Martin (Ann). Other survivors include many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Betty met her husband in Missouri Valley, Iowa. They were both school teachers. They married June 8, 1952 and began their journey together. They lived in Coldwater, Kansas; Indianola, Iowa; Lincoln, Nebraska; Calumet City, Illinois; Joplin, Missouri; Salina, Kansas and Omaha, Nebraska. In January 1970 they arrived in Brownsville, Texas with their 3 kids. Betty worked in retail for several years and then worked at Homer Hanna High School as a librarian aide, a job that brought her happiness. After her retirement she enjoyed being a house wife and serving her church. She taught Sunday school for several years and also was an officer of the United Methodist Women's Fellowship. In late 2013, Betty and Bill moved to Kingsville to be close to their daughter and to their sons.
The family would like to thank Altus Hospice Care and River City Home Health for the loving care given to Betty. They made her final weeks happy and comfortable.
A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. at the Turcotte Piper Mortuary Chapel. Betty will be interred in Brownsville, Texas in a private ceremony. A memorial service will be held at the Brownsville's First United Methodist Church on Friday, April 15, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. Services are entrusted with Turcotte Piper Mortuary in Kingsville, Texas.
Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society in her memory.
