Betty Jane Brooks passed away on August 4, 2015 in Austin, Texas surrounded by her family. Betty was born March 23, 1927 in Charleston, WV to Rose and Clarence Shrewsbury. She was the third of five children and is survived by her sisters; Dorothy Songer of Charleston, WV and Frances (Jack) Trittipo of Estero, FL.
Betty married Garold Lawson Brooks, Sr. on January 13, 1945. They were happily married for almost 60 years until Garold's death on August 7, 2004. They were blessed with five children, RoseMary (Ed) Sheldon of Dripping Springs, TX, Janice (Mike) Robinson of San Marcos, TX, Claudia Wood of Austin, TX, and Joni (Ramon) Flores of Kingsville, TX. Betty was also preceded in death by her son, Garold Lawson Brooks, Jr. (Donna) of Littleton, CO.
Betty was extremely proud of her eight grandchildren; Sandy (Johnny) Alvarado, Lee (Eran) Robinson, Melissa (Ricky) Aguilar, Jessica (Jaomi) Brasher, Aaron Brooks, Katie Rose (Andrew) Stuvel, Amanda Brooks, Sara (Xwan) Lim and her seven great-grandchildren; Megan Rose and Cody Alvarado, Reilly and Will Aguilar, Lawson and Ruby Kate Robinson, and Baby Boy Brasher. Betty was blessed in 2005 with a wonderful pet companion, her little Yorkie, Sally Grace.
Betty spent most of her life in Kingsville, TX where she was an active member of First Baptist Church. She also served as a Christus Spohn Hospital Auxiliary member, along with her husband Garold, for over 30 years. The last three years of Betty's life were spent in Dripping Springs, TX. She loved living in the hill country. She especially enjoyed shopping and going out to eat with her family. Betty was a very spiritual woman who loved the Lord and she took great comfort in His promise that she would go to live with Him when she passed.
The family would like to give special thanks to all of the nursing staff on 3 South at St. David's South Austin Medical Center for their tender, compassionate love and care for Betty throughout the time of her stay. We also want to thank Gentiva Hospice for their tenderness, care and guidance during the final days of Momma's life.
A celebration of Betty's life will take place on Saturday, August 8, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Turcotte-Piper Mortuary in Kingsville, TX. The burial service will be private. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the charity of your choice.
