Bertha Diaz De Leon

After a long illness our beloved mom and wife, Bertha T. Diaz De Leon, passed away Saturday, June 27, 2020

She was born February 24, 1930, in Falfurrias, Texas, the daughter of the late Juan and Inez Byington Trevino. She lived most of her life in Kingsville and married her childhood neighbor Victor.  She worked downtown at J. C. Penney's as a salesclerk and at the Texas A&I (now A&M) University Library.  She will be remembered for the strong values she instilled in her children and grandchildren.  Her ability to organize holiday gatherings, Sunday dinners, and birthday celebrations will always be remembered as precious moments. Her loving memory will always hold a special place in our hearts.

She is survived by her husband of 71 years Victor O. Diaz De Leon, Sr. and her four sons, Victor, Jr (Alva) from Schertz, TX; David (Nora) from Kingsville, Richard also from Kingsville and Edward (Gabriela) from Fort Worth, TX.  She is also survived by one sister, Mary Garcia (Jose) from Fremont, California; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, and numerous loving and caring nieces, nephews, and special neighbors.

She is preceded in death by her siblings: Cecilia Perez, Rodolfo Trevino, and Catarina Arriaga; and her in-laws Pedro and Emma Diaz DeLeon.

Our family would like to give special thanks to Deacon Edwin Rowley and Father Lopez for their kindness to provide spiritual support once she became ill.  In addition, our family is forever grateful to all her health care providers through the years.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 30, 2020 from 5p.m. – 9p.m. with a Holy Rosary to be recited at 7p.m. at Turcotte-Piper Mortuary. Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, July 1, 2020 at 10 a.m. at St. Gertrude Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Resthaven Cemetery.
