Bernie G. Klassen Sr., age 85, a former longtime resident of Kingsville, Texas passed away Monday, May 2, 2016 in Dallas. He was born January 6, 1931 in Arapaho, Oklahoma to Cornelius Klassen and Mary Suderman Klassen. Bernie was employed at Celanese
until his retirement in 1987. He was a member of Kingsville First United Methodist Church and a member of the Elks Lodge.Bernie also had a passion for sports, and over the course of more than 30 years he became a regular fixture on football fields and baseball
diamonds throughout South Texas, wearing the familiar black and white striped official's uniform.
Bernie was preceded in death by his wife, Carrie, his parents, and four brothers, Al, Ed, Archie, and Irvin "Red." Mr. Klassen is survived by his son, B. Gene Klassen of Dallas, Texas and daughter, Laura J. Klassen of Austin, Texas.
Visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 7, 2016 at First United Methodist Church, 120 North 4th Street, Kingsville. Funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Jim M. Curran officiating. All are invited to join the family for fellowship immediately following the funeral service in the Church Community Center. Graveside service will follow at Chamberlain Cemetery.
