Barbara G. Ray, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away on September 24, 2024, at the age of 84. Born on April 30, 1940, in London, England to William Eric and Lilian Masters. She met her husband, John Leslie Ray, Sr. in England while he was serving in the United States Air Force and they were wed on August 20, 1960. She moved with her husband to Kingsville, Texas in 1962. Barbara was a beacon of love and kindness, cherished by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Barbara's spirit sparkled at her family gatherings, particularly during the holiday season, with Christmas having a special place in her heart. The tradition of spending Christmas Eve with her loved ones was a time filled with joy, laughter, and warmth, reflecting the deep bond she cultivated with her family. Her culinary skills were famed, as she delighted in preparing sumptuous meals that brought everyone together, creating memories that would be cherished for years to come.
A woman of extraordinary kindness and welcoming nature, Barbara never met a stranger. She had an infectious sense of humor that could lighten any room, and her honesty was a hallmark of her character. As a mother, she epitomized love and support; as a grandmother and great-grandmother, she shared her nurturing spirit with the next generations, always ready with advice, a listening ear, or a playful laugh. Her stories about home were told with pride, illustrating her deep appreciation for her roots.
Beyond her familial roles, Barbara had many interests that filled her days with joy. Over the years, she was involved as a Pink Lady at Kleberg Hospital as well as a member of Kingsville Elks Ladies Auxiliary and American Legion Auxiliary. She delighted in shopping trips with friends, often returning with treasures and tales to share. Her love for Elvis's music and classic movies provided her with endless joy, serving as the backdrop to many relaxing afternoons.
Barbara also had a special place in her heart for her beloved fur babies, whose unconditional love mirrored her own generous spirit. Their companionship added richness to her life, reminding her every day of the simple joys of love and affection.
As we bid farewell to Barbara, we remember her as a fun and loving person whose legacy of kindness, humor, and family devotion will forever echo in our hearts. Her memory will continue to live on in the laughter and stories shared among those she touched throughout her remarkable life.
She is preceded in death by her husband, John Ray, Sr.; granddaughter, Heather Dreyer; parents, William Eric and Lilian Masters; and brother, Ronnie Masters.
Among those left to cherish her memory are her children, John Leslie Ray, Jr., Stephen Mark (Gina) Ray, Warren David (Cindi) Ray, and Sharon Lee (Casey) Ray Garza; 14 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
A celebration of life will take place at a later date.
