Arnold "Chick" Gardner, went to be with his Savior November 11th. He was born in Rio Grande City, July 2, 1924. He was 94 years old.
He enlisted in the Navy in 1942 and had a career that spanned 31 years and pinnacled as an E-9 Master maintenance chief. He participated in 3 wars: WWII, Korean, and Vietnam.
During his station in Southern California, he met Gwen Rogers. They married in 1950. Their lives were entwined for 63 years until Gwen passed away in 2013.
After retiring from Naval service in 1974, he worked as a security guard at Celanese Plant in Bishop.
Chick Gardner was a member and deacon at University Baptist Church in Kingsville.
He was an avid fisherman and repaired rods and reels in his free time.
He has left many family members which include 1 child, 4 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, and friends to remember his legacy of good humor, generosity, and encouragement.
Visitation will be held Thursday, November 15, 2018 from 5p.m.-9p.m. at Turcotte-Piper Mortuary Chapel. Funeral Service will be held Friday, November 16, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Turcotte-Piper Mortuary. Interment will follow at Chamberlain Cemetery with Full Military Honors.
