Alonzo "Big Al" Garcia, age 77, a resident of Kingsville, Texas passed away Friday, September 30, 2016 at his residence. He was born January 10, 1939 in Kingsville to Pedro Garcia and Lydia Montalvo Garcia. Mr. Garcia was employed for Allen's Furniture Store for over 30 years. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and a 1st Degree Knights of Columbus # 2623 with 33 years of service.
Alonzo was also a U.S. Army National Guard veteran serving during the Korean War.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Graciela Garcia; parents; sister, Noelia Medina; brother, Humberto "Chino" Garcia; and grandson, Alonzo Pedro Garcia.
Mr. Garcia is survived by six children, Mario Alonzo Garcia (Anna), Maryann Martinez (Marcos), Mark Anthony Garcia (Vira), Margaret Ann Pena (David), Michael Andrew Garcia and Maricela Annette Ebanez (Daniel); one brother, Jose "Kookie" Garcia; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at the Turcotte-Piper Mortuary Chapel. Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at the Turcotte-Piper Mortuary Chapel. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 5, 2016 at St. Martin's Catholic Church with Fr. Naul Ordonez as celebrant. Burial with full military honors provided by the Veterans of Kleberg County Funeral Military Detail will follow in Kingsville at the Santa Gertrudis Cemetery.
Services are entrusted to Turcotte-Piper Mortuary, 205 General Cavazos Blvd., Kingsville, Texas.
