Alfredo A. Hignojos was called to his eternal rest on June 26th, 2023, at the age of 80. He was born to Angel and Leonor Hignojos on August 1, 1942, in Barstow, Texas; and was the youngest of 11 children. Alfredo married the love of his life Rosa, on March 11, 1964, and lived happily for 59 years.
He was a quiet, soft-spoken, kind man; not much for words but ask him about ‘Dem Boys or the Texas Rangers and it was on. Alfredo loved collecting tonka trucks, tractors, model cars, brass, and memorabilia. He was always ready to play the lottery or go to a casino. Alfredo was quite lucky but said he had hit the jackpot with his wife and children. He never complained or spoke ill of anyone and would help anyone with whatever they needed with no questions or judgement. Alfredo was twice retired and often would say “if I stop working, I’ll get old.” So, whether it was fiddling in his shop, or grooming the yard, to side jobs with his “boss man,” a man Alfredo grew to respect and love very much. Which is where the name “Papa” came to exist. He was “Papa” to most and “Tio” to countless nieces and nephews.
Alfredo’s second biggest love was his yorkie “Harlie.” She went everywhere he could take her; she was riding shotgun. Harlie is continuously searching for him, waiting by his door to see him, sleeping on his clothes to feel close to him, and will definitely miss him, as well all of us. Thank you for giving us all the love you knew how to give us and mostly for sharing all the memories we got in Kingsville. Although shorter than expected, but truly a treasure, nonetheless. Until we meet again Pops, you were the hero and protector to us. We love you.
Alfredo was heartbroken after the loss of his beloved wife and soon joined her in eternal rest; and they both deeply missed their eldest son Alfredito Hignojos.
Among those left to cherish his memory are his son, Noah G. (Leah) Hignojos; daughter, Cristina Hignojos; daughter in law, Lupe Hignojos; grandchildren, Amber Spencer, Joshua Spencer, Angel Ray (Tabitha) Hignojos, Javier Camarillo, and Chris Camarillo; great grandchildren, Tristan, Zachariah, Dominik, Reagan, Lucas, Katie, Albrijhiana, and Jesse; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
The family will receive condolences on Sunday, July 2, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Turcotte-Piper Mortuary; with a holy rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, July 3, 2023, at St. Martin Catholic Church. A Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at Santa Gertrudis Cemetery.
