Alfred Shafer

Alfred Edwin Shafer, 77, passed away peacefully at his home on June 20, 2014 in Kingsville, Texas.
He was born December 10, 1936 to Fred and Jessie Shafer in Bishop, Texas.
Upon high school graduation, he worked with his Dad as a carpenter and cotton ginner. In 1965 he went to work for Celanese and retired 34 years later in 1999 as a machinist foreman. He enjoyed playing basketball and was on the Celanese company team from 1965 to 1970. Another hobby he really enjoyed was golf, but gave it up because he no longer could find the time or energy.
He loved to spend weekends at the house on Baffin Bay fishing off the pier and enjoying friends and family. Watching wild game at his hunting lease was where he spent a lot of his winter weekends. Anyone who knew him knew his favorite past time was cooking for anyone and everyone.
He is preceded in death by his parents sisters Peggy Mussler and Queen Shafer brothers Gordon, Clifton, Kenneth, Freddie and Gene. He is survived by his wife, Rita Ryon Shafer sons Rodney Shafer, Scott Shafer and Steve Shafer daughter Gaye Shafer Alcoser grandchildren Katie, Ashley, Trent, Andrew, Alora, Grant and Nick sisters Ellen Suggs and Barbara Hubert as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
