Abel Contreras

Abel Gonzalez Contreras, age 59, a resident of Bishop, Texas passed away Friday, November 11, 2016 in Houston, Texas. He was born October 28, 1957 in Kingsville to Eugenio Contreras Jr. and Germana Gonzalez Contreras. After graduating from Texas A&M University with a Master's Degree, he was employed as a counselor at The Women's Shelter in Corpus Christi. Early in his life, he was an insurance agent and self-employed in the flooring industry. Abel was a member of St. James Catholic Church, Bishop.
He was preceded in death by his father, Eugenio Contreras Jr.; and brother, Eugenio G. Contreras III.
Abel is survived by his wife, Nydia N. Contreras of Bishop; five sons, Abel Contreras Jr. of Kingsville, Marcos Contreras of Corpus Christi, Texas, Michael Dean Contreras (Angelica) of Kingsville, Isaac Contreras of Bishop and Jeremy Contreras of Corpus Christi; mother, Germana Contreras of Bishop; one brother, Herman Contreras (Wendy) of Corpus Christi; three sisters, Maria Teresa Contreras and Imelda Barrera of Corpus Christi, and Estela Salinas (Robert) of Bishop; 11 grandchildren; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Public visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 15, 2016 at the Turcotte-Piper Mortuary Chapel. Rosary will be recited by Jennifer Perez, niece, at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 15, 2016 at the Turcotte-Piper Mortuary Chapel. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 16, 2016 at St. James Catholic Church, Bishop, with Fr. John Xaviour as celebrant. Burial will follow in Bishop at St. James Catholic Cemetery.
Services are entrusted to Turcotte-Piper Mortuary, 205 General Cavazos Blvd., Kingsville, Texas.
