Dr. Judith E. (Judy) Cox
July 30, 1949 - May 3, 2022
Judith Ellen Robinson was born to Norman Robinson and Bernice (Bunny) Robinson in Weymouth, Massachusetts. After graduating from Weymouth High School, she was the first in her immediate family to attend college, graduating from Boston University in 1974. After graduating, she began her first career, in property and liability insurance underwriting; she completed the examination and work requirements to earn the designation Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) in 1992. In this period Judy also took up square dancing at M.I.T., where she met her future husband, Paul Cox, then a Harvard graduate student, and after several years of increasingly shared activities, she and Paul were married in the Church of the Holy Nativity in Weymouth on June 20, 1981. About a year later, Paul's career development led to three moves, ending at Texas A&I University (now TAMUK) in Kingsville. Judy consistently took advantage of opportunities to take courses, eventually earning two master's degrees and a doctorate from TAMUK. Here she began a different career, in adult education, including volunteer tutoring in an ESL program and for the Kleberg County Adult Literacy Council (KCALC). She became a KCALC board member, serving for a time as secretary. A lifelong reader, she was appointed to the board of the Robert J. Kleberg Public Library. She was also, for a time, a member of the Kingsville Women's Club, in its F.L.A.I.R. unit, and participated in activities at First United Methodist Church-Kingsville and at the Church of the Epiphany.
Judy is survived by her husband, retired Professor Paul H. Cox; three sisters-in-law: Ruth King, Ellen Cox, and Grace Lovelace; a niece, two nephews, and various cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother William Robinson.
A Memorial Service will be held on May 31 at 1:00 PM at Turcotte-Piper Mortuary and via Facebook.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Kleberg Public Library or to KCALC.
